Most businesses are sitting on information and data that has passed through them since they started out in business.

Research recently gathered provides some worrying data for traditional businesses. Graham Jones http://www.grahamjones.co.uk surveyed 1200 British small and something like a third made no money at all from their website. A further 30% made less than £1,000 per year. Only a quarter of businesses surveyed made more than £10,000 a year online.

Most business owners were not happy with their performance and wanted "tons of help" of "lots of help" in several areas including marketing, sales and online strategy

Some time ago I met a web designer who was a bit different from the norm. I put it to him that most web designers don't really get it. They design websites which look great visually but do nothing to add profits to the bottom line. The funny thing was that he agreed with me.

He explained that ten years ago he didn't get it either and built very nice looking websites that failed in their main task of making more money. Since then he has been on a sort of crusade and has learnt lots about what works and what doesn't work.

He advocates using web sites as part of the overall strategy and uses simple but very potent mechanisms to communicate with people on a regular basis. In all cases he is careful to ensure that he gets a positive return on investment.

Isn't that what it's all about? Spend a £1 and get £2 in profit returned to the business.
