People
are looking for you
They can't find you - do you know what to do about it?
More and more people are now using the web to find out information. I don’t have the actual stat's to hand but the
Government is pushing very hard to get broadband out to the masses.
I happen to still think there is a place for traditional advertising because people like to pick up a magazine or a
news paper and this type of media is transportable IE you can take it with you pretty much where you want.
People and their habits
We need to understand people’s habits when it comes to finding out things. As I have mentioned in other articles,
people use the web to find solutions to problems and even more so when they are local.
There’s a problem and a huge opportunity.
To attract local people looking to local solutions we need to think about what type of searches people are actually
doing. And secondly we need to find a way to attract the serious ones to us. That way they are more likely to spend
their money with us or in this case you rather than a competitor.
People will normally follow a pattern of behaviour when searching. Starting off doing broad searches and then
narrowing down to specifics.
My wife did a search last night and was looking for UK based holiday destinations. She started off by typing
“holidays south coast England” this brought up 264,000 websites or instances.
The first website was described as;
South Coast of England holidays. Accommodation & holidays on the ...
South Coast of England holidays. Superb selection of South Coast of England holidays & accommodation from Lands
End to Camber Sands.
http://www.responsibletravel.com/tripSearch/UK/Location100435.htm
She had a look through the website and came up with some other ideas to refine her search.
She typed in “self catering family accommodation south coast”
The second website that popped up was;
http://www.coastandcountry.co.uk
Now, I personally lost a bit of interest so have no idea whether she has booked a holiday through this business or
not. But it definitely fitted better than the first site she stumbled upon.
Your websites should attract the right sort of people so that when they land on it they stick around because it
provides a solution to their problem. If it does there is a very good chance they will spend their money with
you.
